Dr. Marcelo H. Losso
Dr. Marcelo H. Losso currently heads the Emerging Diseases Section and the Immunocompromised Patients Service at the Hospital General de Agudos J. M. Ramos Mejía in Buenos Aires; he is a Principal Investigator in the Health Research Career path of the Ministry of Health, Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (GCBA); he serves as the Principal Investigator in charge of the Emerging Diseases Research Area at the JM Ramos Mejía Hospital; and he is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the School of Medicine, University of Buenos Aires.
He received his medical degree with honors from the School of Medicine at the University of Buenos Aires. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the JM Ramos Mejía Hospital and pursued his postgraduate training in HIV/AIDS at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Maryland, USA. Subsequently, he established a unit dedicated to comprehensive clinical care and clinical research in HIV infection at the hospital where he trained, which he currently leads.
For the past 25 years, he has been dedicated to developing networks for the implementation of academic clinical trials in HIV infection in Latin America, particularly in Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Mexico. Dr. Losso was the Co-Director of one of the largest completed clinical trials in HIV treatment, the ESPRIT study; and he participated in the primary analysis and communication of the results of the SMART and START studies, two of the most significant contributions to the knowledge of antiretroviral treatment, which form the basis of all available treatment guidelines. He has published more than 220 manuscripts in peer-reviewed international journals.
He is currently a member of the STRIVE Scientific Committee and a Fellow of the MRCT Center at Harvard University. As the Leader of HIV Patient Care at the Hospital General de Agudos J. M. Ramos Mejía and Director of CICAL, he has developed extensive experience in conducting and implementing clinical trials, and has served as the Principal Investigator for Argentina for a variety of projects, including a productive international collaboration with the NIH networks INSIGHT, HPTN, HVTN, and IMPAACT in the USA, the Kirby Institute in Australia, and Eurocoord in the European Community.
During the health crisis caused by COVID-19, his research efforts focused on managing the pandemic response at the JM Ramos Mejía Hospital. In this context, he secured numerous grants that enabled the inauguration of a physical facility dedicated to research on Emerging Diseases at that hospital.
He has served as a member and Director of the Research Ethics Committee at the Ramos Mejía Hospital and was a member of the Central Research Ethics Committee of the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
Myrian Scherer
Myrian has a degree in nursing from the National University of Rosario. She worked as a nurse in the intensive care unit at the Clinic and Maternity Suizo Argentina, has experience in cardiovascular recovery. In addition, she worked as an Infection Control nurse for 22 years at the Argentine Institute of Diagnosis and Treatment, where she was responsible for the infection control program of the entire institution. She was secretary of the Argentine Association of Nurses in Infection Control, she served as coordinator of the First National Campaign for Hand Hygiene in 2011 (Ministry of Health of the Nation-ADECI). In addition, he has experience in quality and patient safety, process improvement, drafting, review of standards and procedures, training in teamwork (training in the TeamStepps model), tasks that he currently performs.
Ángeles Acevedo
Ángeles coordinates the projects carried out within the Clinical Research Unit and serves as the primary liaison between project teams, monitoring teams, and the Principal Investigator. In her role as a Study Coordinator, she manages multiple responsibilities, including responding to inspections and audits, while working in close coordination with quality management. Ángeles is an advanced Nutrition student at the Universidad del Salvador; she completed a Clinical Trial Monitoring course in 2021 and joined CICAL in 2023, initially working in the data management department.
Lic. Tomas Kierszenowicz
Social Anthropologist with master’s degrees in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. PhD candidate in Anthropological Sciences. He currently focuses on designing and developing AI-based solutions for healthcare and clinical research. He is a lecturer in the Hospital Administration Specialization program at ISALUD University. He was a CONICET fellow (2019–2024) and served as a Regional Technical Advisor for projects under the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (2016–2018).
Dr. Javier Toibaro
Dr. Toibaro is a physician graduated from the University of Buenos Aires. He is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Health Sciences Statistics (Faculty of Exact Sciences, UBA). He is currently Head of Internal Medicine Unit B at the Hospital JM Ramos Mejía, Adjunct Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine, and an Independent Researcher in the Research Career of the Ministry of Health, GCBA. He has over 20 years of experience as a clinical researcher and advises health agencies and sponsors on the design of clinical research projects.
Dra. Mariana A. Kundro
Physician specializing in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine. A Pharmacology lecturer at the UBA School of Medicine, she works as a Staff Physician in the Emerging Diseases Section and the Clinical Research Area at the “Dr. Jose Maria Ramos Mejía” General Acute Care Hospital. She has coordinated and participated in numerous clinical trials focused on HIV prevention, antiretroviral treatment, and vaccines. She coordinates the Graduate Course in Clinical Research at the UBA School of Medicine.
Dr. Guillermo A. Viloria
Physician specializing in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine. He works as a Staff Physician in the Emerging Diseases Section and the Clinical Research Area of the “Dr. Jose Maria Ramos Mejía” General Acute Care Hospital. He has coordinated and participated as a co-investigator in numerous clinical trials on HIV infection prevention, antiretroviral treatment, and vaccines.
Lic. Victoria Cardoso
Victoria is a Licensed Nutritionist (2008). She began her career in clinical research shortly after graduating from the University of Buenos Aires and has worked in this field for the last 14 years. She joined CICAL in 2024 to develop projects linked to STRIVE.
Lic. Patricia Burgoa
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the Universidad de Lomas de Zamora. She served as an intensive care unit (ICU) nurse in the Immunocompromised Patient Service and the Sexual Health Clinic at the Hospital General de Agudos J.M. Ramos Mejía, where she acquired the skills to perform nursing tasks within clinical trials. She currently works at the same institution as an Infection Control Nurse. She serves as a Project Coordinator and Monitor at CICAL.
Norberto Selasco
Marketing Technician (UB) and community educator. Norberto coordinates community-related activities in prevention and treatment. He has developed strategies for community engagement, follow-up, and retention for various studies.
Griselda Flores
She is Technician in Business Administration. Griselda has 22 years of experience in accounting and general business administration. In addition, she studied and finished his studies in the Economics and Management of Organizations Facultly.
Bruno Boninsegna
Completed his studies in Pharmacy at the J F. Kennedy University in Buenos Aires, completed his residency, Chief of Residents and specialty in Hospital Pharmacy at the Central Military Hospital and was Head of the Drugs Section at the Pharmacy in the same Hospital. He joined CICAL in 2023 as an Associate Pharmacist to develop clinical research.
Tomás Schverdfinger
Tomás graduated as a Pharmacist at the UBA. He has 8 years of experience in hospital pharmacy and 2 years of experience in the industry, in the production sector (Pfizer). In addition, he is completing a postgraduate course in clinical research at the Ramos Mejia Hospital. Tomás is currently PA (Associate Pharmacist) in various research projects at the J. M. Ramos Mejía General Hospital for Acute Care, including HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis. Among the tasks he performs are the control of medical prescriptions, medication preparation, stock control, dispensing and temperatures.
Dra. Jimena Lopez Piñeiro
Infectious Disease Specialist. She works as a Staff Physician at the Francisco J. Muñiz Hospital. In 2024, she was successful in a competitive selection process and was chosen to serve as a Clinical Research Fellow for the 2024-2026 period.
Lorena D. Reynoso
Technician in Business Administration. Lorena has 19 years of experience in administrative-accounting tasks, information analysis and auditing tasks. She has served as a sector manager with personnel in charge, in the Transportation area. She currently works as an administrative officer in the finance area where she enter data related to studies and bank reconciliations.
Candelaria Benedetti
Candelaria is part of the data team and is in charge of entry, quality control and quality assurance of the data from the different clinical studies that we integrate.
Juan Manuel Mujica
Advanced medical student at the UBA School of Medicine, he works as a Pharmacology Teaching Assistant at the UBA School of Medicine. He collaborates in clinical trial data management.
Sabrina Francavilla
Sabrina performs administrative tasks in the different studies that we integrate. He receives study participants when they attend visits, she is in charge of contacting study participants to schedule visits and contacting potential participants.
Clara Torchia
Clara studied at the Argentine Institute of Executive Secretaries. Clara performs administrative tasks in the different studies that we integrate. He receives study participants when they attend visits, she is in charge of contacting study participants to schedule visits and contacting potential participants.

Cecilia Etchart
Administrative Assistant for Clinical Operations
Descripcion: Cecilia Etchart studied at the Argentine Institute of Executive Secretaries. She performs administrative tasks in the central office of the IBIS foundation: Maintenance of regulatory files, preparation of personnel files and management and preparation of budgets for purchases of supplies for clinical research. Also she controls of the stock of supplies of the Foundation and the Hospital J. M. Ramos Mejía, request and control of calibration of medical equipment, etc.
